Colby Covington has done everything he can to earn a title shot against Tyron Woodley. Now, he is holding a gold belt of his own. He defeated Rafael dos Anjos to win the interim welterweight belt at UFC 225.
That has not stopped Covington from running Woodley down verbally. Despite there being no other direction to go in the 170-pound division besides Woodley vs. Covington, “Chaos” attacked Woodley yet again on a recent episode of “The MMA Hour.”
Tyquil, there’s nowhere else to run. There’s nowhere else to hide. What you gonna do now? No more rap albums. I know all the people hate me, but if you really want to hate me, go look on Google and try to listen to this dude rap. That’s why he’s trying to come fight. That’s why he’s begging to fight me now, because his rap album is failing. He’s got baby mamas to pay. That dude is a joke, man. His B-list acting career that goes straight to DVD, it is no more. Don’t worry, Tyquil. I’m sending you to sleep for good, motherf*cker.
Woodley fired back the day after Covington won the interim belt. He called Covington’s statements controversial, racial, and insensitive.
The problem is, when they lock this Octagon, I’m gonna unleash an a**-whooping on him that nobody has ever experienced – and he can’t run. He can’t out-strike me. He can’t out-wrestle me…because he hasn’t been hit like I’m gonna hit him.
When Covington and Woodley finally clash, the UFC will have a serious grudge match. The two men trained together at American Top Team. However, they have different interpretations of how that training went from the way they talk. According to Covington, he thrashed Woodley in the training room.
Covington said that Woodley could not take a single round from him. In the first round, Woodley would be breathing heavily striving for oxygen. In the second round, Woodley would be easy pickings for Covington and he could do whatever he wanted to him. In the third round he would give up.
Covington claims that is the real reason Woodley stopped speaking to him. Woodley had taken enough beatings.
Covington said, “Things are so bad between them that Woodley has blocked him on social media.” Covington believes he was blocked because he has gotten into Woodley’s head. “I don’t see anything he says. Anything he says is fake news,” stated Covington.
Woodley’s last fight was a win against Demian Maia at UFC 214, in July 2017. He had been recovering from shoulder surgery. During this time, Covington has defeated Maia and dos Anjos. He has gained more attention in the media with his words and hard right-wing politics.
Regardless, Covington achieved his goal. He will have his fight with Woodley. He promised to “embarrass him in front of the whole world.” He also stated that Woodley will not last more than two rounds.
