Ray “Ace” Ostrander won his professional fight against Vladimir Martinez at Real MMA XVIII, on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018.
Ostrander said the fight went as planned. He tried to stand with Martinez but when Ostrander through a kick, Martinez tried for a takedown. Ostrander took Martinez down within the first 20 or 30 seconds of the first round. Ostrander dominated the first round.
In the second round, Martinez was able to reverse Ostrander’s mount for 15-20 seconds. Ostrander was able to get out from under Martinez and grabbed his leg, put him against the cage and Ostrander took Martinez down. Ostrander was able to get into side mount and then full mount.
Aces’s coaches, Steve Pelligrino and Joey “El Cazador” Ruquet were telling him to get on top and stay on top. That is exactly what he did. Then, he proceeded to ground and pound. Martinez started to panic and kicking his legs to get out from under Ostrander’s high mount and heavy-handed position. The referee encouraged Martinez to fight back. Once Ostrander realized his opponent was desperate, he threw faster, harder punches until the referee called the fight.
Ostrander won by TKO two minutes into the second round. He said it felt really good. When the fight was over, Ostrander went over to shake Martinez’s hand, but Martinez just walked away. Ostrander said, “It is what it is.” Most fighters are all about leaving everything in the ring.
Ace is hoping to have his next fight in October or November under a different Las Vegas venue, called Final Fight Championship. The promotion hosts different kinds of professional fights every weekend at the Rio Hotel in the Fight Dome. Providing more opportunities for fighters to gain experience.
Ostrander plans to continue to fight on amateur and pro cards for Real MMA, Tuff-N-Uff, and Final Fight Championship. He will stay pretty busy in the cage. He sounded excited talking about his future in fighting.
Real MMA XVIII was the first card to feature both amateur and professional fighters. They partnered with Spartan Combat League at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino.
